South Carolina basketball star Aliyah Boston was named the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Yr on Monday evening.
She obtained the Honda Cup in a ceremony at Galen Middle on the College of Southern California campus. Boston’s mentor, Dawn Staley, gained the award in 1991 as a basketball player at Virginia.
The junior forward is the very first basketball player to earn the award since Breanna Stewart in 2016. Overall, 16 basketball players have received the Honda Cup — the most of any activity.
“It signifies a great deal. A great deal of these females are my role products,” Boston reported. “Coach Staley was a earlier winner. Candace Parker was my position product due to the fact I was nine years old.”
Boston assisted South Carolina to its second national championship this earlier spring and was the AP women’s basketball Player of the Calendar year.
The other finalists for the award were Oklahoma softball senior Jocelyn Alo and Florida gymnast Trinity Thomas.
“All these women on the stage help each sport they participate in,” Boston explained.
The major a few ended up picked by voting of just about 1,000 NCAA member educational institutions, and the winner was picked out by the Board of Directors of the Collegiate Women of all ages Sporting activities Awards plan.

“To Aliyah Boston, this year’s Honda Cup winner, we commend and congratulate you on your impressive achievements which led to your range as the Cup winner and welcome you to this rare sisterhood, staying named the very greatest feminine collegiate athlete in the country.”
