Special Education teacher at Broughton Magnet High School named WCPSS Teacher of the Year

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) — The Wake County Community Faculty Program has specified the title Trainer of the Year for 2022-23 to a special schooling trainer at Broughton Magnet Higher College.

Carolina Olson has been in the Particular Plans Section at Broughton High College due to the fact 2015. She also served as a training assistant for the TEACCH Autism Program during the summers of 2014 as a result of 2017.

Olson is a graduate of Clemson University, with a bachelor’s degree in Particular Education and learning. She is certified in Excellent Little ones- Adapted and Normal Curriculum (K-12) and holds Countrywide Board Certification as an Outstanding Needs Specialist.

“I use a wide variety of techniques to ensure that all learners are afforded possibilities for achievement,” Olson wrote about her tutorial style. “My students acquire benchmarks, curiosity inventories, and changeover assessments to provide me data about what they presently know, what they want to know, and what their pursuits exterior of faculty are. I use these interests to increase engagement and enthusiasm to meet up with academic ambitions.”

Olson also serves on the North Carolina Superintendent’s Trainer Leadership Council and has served as a curriculum writer for the NC Department of Instruction. She was a Kenan Fellow for Instructor Leadership in 2019-2020 and was named a WCPSS Diane Kent Parker Initial-Yr Teacher of the 12 months Award winner in Specific Education and learning in 2016.

As Trainer of the 12 months, Olson will participate in the Go World-wide NC international study application in Chile in the summer months of 2023. The vacation is sponsored by the Dan Royster Memorial Instructor Award, in honor of a previous WCPSS science instructor.

Olson gained an engraved award, a gift card to the Angus Barn, a weekend keep at the Umstead Lodge and Spa with complimentary breakfast at Heron’s Restaurant, alongside with many other goodies, which includes an autographed hockey stick and T-shirt donated by the Carolina Hurricanes.
